A special Halloween Birthday

I’m really proud of the work I did on this cake.  It took 4 nights and a total of nearly 16 hours but I think it turned out really well.  The client wanted a special cake for her 50th but it had to be Halloween themed as it’s her birthday on All Hallow’s Eve.  I sent her several pictures as inspiration and to show her some themes and she actually picked a very specific cake from the wonderful Pink Cake Box.  I told her that it would be my interpretation but she was happy as long as I included a happy witch and a cat.

Pink Cadillac Cake

This is one of hardest cakes I’ve ever made.  I knew it would be difficult as it’s my first car cake and there were a lot of different structual elements to put together.  I originally wanted to carve the seated area out of the cake but soon realised it would mean losing a lot of cake, my better half came up with the great idea of just cutting the cake in half and creating the seating area between the two halves.

There were also a few more non edible elements to this cake than normal.  I would prefer to keep everything edible but it’s not always possible when you are only using cake as support which is such a volatile material.

Picture Post – Choc chip shortbread, marble cake, rock muffins

After an absense due to illness & holidays this post is just a little catch up on baking of the past few weeks.  As I’m currently between making two large cake orders I only have time to post pictures so apologies for no recipes at this time.

Chocolate Chip Shortbread – These didn’t have the snap and melt in your mouth feel that I like from shortbread but they were still tasty and were delicious with a cup of tea.  Their mini size (about 1 and 1/2″) means you can indulge in more than one!
